Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Dominican 7-0 in Non-Conference Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. –  The Queens College women's tennis team wrapped up non-conference play Friday afternoon against the Chargers of Dominican University of New York with a 7-0 sweep inside the QC Tennis Bubble.

Win the win, the Knights improved to 4-1 overall. 
 
Doubles Play
 
The Knights needing one doubles match to clinch the double points swept doubles action as the #2 doubles duo of sophomore Rea Hagishima (Tokyo, Japan) / junior Mariana Ling (Orlando, Florida) defeated Rupkatha Mukherjee / Ava O'Brien to the score of 6-1. 
 
Queens would complete the sweep as the #1 doubles duo of junior Ana Tarbujaru (Valcea, Romania) / Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) picked up a 6-1 victory over Vanya Tyagi/Nora Frederick. 
 
Singles Play
 
Having been given the doubles duty off on the afternoon, the trio of senior Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland), junior Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt), and senior Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) wasted no time in their singles matches.
 
Makal cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Mukherjee at #1 singles before Fawzy shutout Tyagi at #2 singles to the score of 6-0, 6-0.
 
At #3 singles, Sciarrotta dispatched Frederick to the score of 6-2, 6-0. 
 
At #4 singles Ling completed the 7-0 sweep over O'Brien in a 6-2, 6-1 victory. 
 
UP NEXT: On Saturday (Oct.22) afternoon head Coach Alan Nagel and his Knights conclude the 2022 regular season in the Nation's Capital with a match-up against Firebirds of the University Of the District of Columbia. The first serve is set for 1:00 P.M.
