FLUSHING, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the Queens College volleyball team opened East Coast Conference play as they welcomed the Wildcats of Daemen College.
But the Knights were unable to find any offensive rhythm as they were swept 3-0 in straight sets. The set scores were
11-25, 14-25, 17-25.
With the loss, the Knights move to 1-9 overall, 0-1 in ECC, while the Wildcats improved to 6-5 ECC, 1-0 in ECC.
How it Happened
- The Knights never got going in the first set as the Wildcats took advantage of attacking errors to trail 1-0.
- In the second set, the Knights stayed close but a 6-0 run push the Wildcats to a 19-10 advantage before closing the second set to the final score of 25-14.
- After the Wildcats started the third set on a 3-0 run, the Knights battled back to tie the set 3-3.
- Following back-to-back errors by the Wildcats, the Knight would have their first lead of the day with a 5-4 advantage.
- After a kill by sophomore Alexis Deodat (Riverview, FL) tied the match once again at 9-9, the Wildcats went on a 5-0 run to push their lead to 14-9 before completing the sweep with the final set score of 25-17.
By the Numbers
- Sophomore Leila Hadjeb (Queens, N.Y) led the Knights with a team-high five kills, seven digs, and two service aces. While three Knights combined for three kills apiece.
- Jorden Warthen (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Despina Boudouris (Merrick, N.Y.) combined for 14 assists on the day.
