MTEN Concludes Three-Game Road Trip Against D1 Fordham

QUEENS, N.Y.- On Sunday afternoon the Queens College men's tennis team ended the three-game weekend road trip with a matchup against Division 1 A-10 member Fordham University Rams at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Playing their third game in as many days, the Knights were shutout for the second time this season, with both shutouts coming against D1 opponents as they fell 7-0 to the Rams.

With the loss, the Knights move to 7-5 overall, and 0-4 against D1 opponents this season. While the Rams improved to 5-4 overall.

Doubles Competition

Playing to clinch the doubles point, the Rams took the point with wins coming at the No. 2 and 3 doubles courts. The pair of sophomore Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / freshman Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) were defeated 6-4 by Alex Makatsaria / Max Green at the No. 2 slot.

The home side would go up 1-0 as the duo of Tom Russwurm / Jofre Segarra defeated senior Eduardo Marino (Sao Paulo, Brazil) / freshman Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) to the score of 6-4 to give the Rams the doubles point.

The No. 1 doubles pair of junior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) and Sophomore Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) match remained unfinished against Fabian Mauritzson / Lutwin de Macar with the score tied 4-4.

Singles Competition

The singles brought no luck as fatigue set in for the Knights. Ostheimer playing his second singles match of the week in two days after two weeks fell at the No. 1 slot to Mauritzon to the score of 6-1, 6-2.

Rashad who picked up the lone win in the previous meeting against the Rams fell 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3 slot against Makatsaria.

Marino would fall next at the No. 6 slot as Segarra defeated the Brazilan native 6-3, 6-3.

At No. 4 slot Bibiloni took his match to the third set against de Macar but eventually would fall 3-6, 6-1, 2-6. Borges dropped the first set 6-3, but would drop the match 7-5 in the second set against Russwurm at the No. 5 spot.

Shehawey playing at the No. 2 spot in back-to-back games made the Rams No. 2 Green earn the victory as he looked to pick up the lone win for the Knights. Shehawey took both sets into the tiebreaker as he dropped the first set 7-6, before winning 7-5 in the second set. But Shehawey would fall 10-4 in the tiebreaker as the Knights concluded the road trip with a 7-0 loss.
