Demuth Prevails in Singles Action but MTEN Drop 6-1 Regular Season Finale Against Concordia at Home

FLUSHING, N.Y.- In the battle of the top two programs in the latest NCAA Division II East Regional Rankings, the Queens College Knights fell 6-1 to the visiting Clippers of Concordia College (N.Y.) to conclude the regular season. 
 
The loss moves the Knights to 7-6 overall, while the Clippers improve to 11-0. 
 
The Knights fell at home for the first time since their 2019-20 season opener loss on February 13, 2020, ending their eight-game winning streak inside the confines of the QC Tennis Courts.
 
Doubles Competitions
 
The Knights trailed 1-0 after the conclusion of doubles play as the Clippers took the wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles courts. 
 
The Knights No. 1 doubles pair of freshmen Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) / Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) fell to the score of 6-1 against #14 ranked Tobias Lentz / Jonatan Lundahl. The Clippers clinched the doubles point with the win at the No. 2 spot as the pair of junior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) and sophomore Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) were defeated 6-1 by Jan Godfrey Seno / William Nilsson.
 
The sophomore duo of Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina)  picked up the doubles win against Oskar Irdoja / Henry Masters to the score of 6-4 at the No. 3 spot.
 
Singles Competition
 
The Knights fought hard in singles' actions as they took four matches into the third set but would eventually drop five singles matches. 
 
Shehawey would fall at the No. 1 courts to  #30 Lentz to the score of 6-3, 6-0. Ostheimer ranked #48 in the ITA singles ranking fell 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 against Lundahl at the No. 2 courts as the Clippers went up 3-0. 
 
At the No. 4 spot Bibiloni won the first set 6-3 but would go onto drop the singles match to the score of 6-3, 1-6, 2-6 against Seno. 
 
After winning the first set 6-4, Rashad match at the No. 3 spot went down to the wire in the second and third set as he was defeated 6-4, 5-7, 5-7 by Masters as the Clippers clinched the match. 
 
Demuth playing his first match in nearly three weeks picked up the lone points for the Knights at the No. 5 spot as he defeated Nilsson 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. 
 
At the No. 6 spot Borges won the first set 6-4, but eventually fall 4-6, 0-1 (9-11) in the tiebreaker as the Clippers defeated the Knights for the second time this season.
 
UP NEXT: With the regular season concluded, the Knights will look to win their fourth-straight East Coast Conference (ECC) crown on Saturday (May 1) at 3 p.m. They will await the winners of St. Thomas Aquinas/Daemen who will meet each other on Friday (Apr. 30) at 3 p.m. in the play-in round.
