SPARKILL, N.Y. - On Saturday afternoon the Queens College men's tennis finished their East Coast Conference (ECC) regular-season portion of the schedule undefeated as they clinched their second straight ECC regular-season crown.
The Knights traveled back to Sparkill to conclude their conference schedule and came out with a 4-3 victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans.
With the win, the Knights improve to 7-4 overall, 6-0 in ECC play, while the Spartans moved to 3-3 overall, 1-3 in ECC action.
Dating back to the 2018-19 season, the Knights have won 11 straight ECC matches and clinched their second straight regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ECC Men's Tennis Championship.
Once again the Knights started the match up 1-0 with the Spartans only fielding five players on the day and needed one doubles match to clinch the doubles points.
Doubles Competitions
The Knights clinched the doubles points as the No. 2 doubles duo of Sophomore
Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) / freshman
Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) dispatched the pair of Alvaro Barranco / Lennart Lehmann to the score of 6-4.
At the No. 1 doubles slot the sophomore duo
Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / Julius Schulte (Dusseldorf, Germany) were defeated by the Spartans pair of Kas Roosch / Ivan Laiz to the score of 7-5.
Singles Competition
Leading 2-0, The Knights went up 3-0 as freshman
Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) made quick work of Matthew Corsie at the No. 5 slot as he swept the match to the score of 6-0, 6-0.
Schulte would fall at the No. 3 slot as he was defeated by Barranco in straight sets to the score of 6-1, 6-0. The Spartans would cut the deficit down to 3-2 as senior
Hugo Evangelista de Andrade (Goiania, Brazil) fell 6-1, 6-0 to Laiz at the No. 4 slot.
Borges would clinch the match at the No. 2 slot as he dispatched Roosch to the score of 6-3, 6-3 as the Knights went up 4-2.
Playing his first singles match in over two weeks, freshman
Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) fell in three-sets against Lehmann at the No. 1 slot to the score of 2-6, 6-2, 3-6 as the Spartans split the singles matches.
UP NEXT: The Knights take a break from Division II play as they wrap up their two-game series against Division I Fordham University Rams on Sunday (Apr. 25). First serve is slated for 1 p.m. start time.
