WEST BABYLON, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball has been slotted to finish eighth as voted by the East Coast Conference coaches in the 2021-2022 men's basketball preseason poll, the league office announced.
The two-time defending champions St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans narrowly edged out Daemen College Wildcats for the top spot. While the NCAA 2021-2022 East Region champions Wildcats are slotted second.
The University of Bridgeport Purple Knights have been selected to finish third, while the Lions of Molloy College round out the top four spots.
The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds were voted to finish fifth and projected to take the last playoff spot at sixth were the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College.
The Mavericks of Mercy College have been voted to finish seventh in the poll.
Queens returned to conference postseason play in 2019-2020 after a two-year drought. For the upcoming season, the Knights have selected to finish eighth and will be looking to create some upsets as they eye a return to postseason play for the second season in a row.
The last two spots in the preseason poll went to the ECC newcomers D'Youville College Saints and fellow CUNY member College of Staten Island Dolphins.
The Preseason Player of the Year honors went to Wildcats Andrew Sischo.
