#QCBSB Plays Two at Southern Connecticut in the Sunday Sunshine

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Mar. 8, 2020) - The Queens College baseball team wrapped up a three-game weekend series with Southern Connecticut on Sunday (Mar. 8) as the Knights looked to continue the momentum following a 13-4 romp versus the Owls the day before. Unfortunately for Queens, SCSU was prepared for a slugfest and the hosts came out with blazing bats to win both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 12-5 and 10-5 at The Ballpark at SCSU.

Louis Antos went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the first contest, getting things started with a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning before the Owls put up an eight-run second inning on QC starting pitcher Dylan Hughes. Antos would bring the Knights somewhat back into the contest with a bases-clearing, three-run double in the top of the seventh inning and the Knights got a run in the ninth on an RBI single off the bat of rookie catcher Teovaldo Estevez.

Ryan Dalton was 2-for-4 in the contest as well for the Knights while Southern Connecticut was held scoreless over the final three innings of play as Dante Interlandi limited the Owls to two hits and two walks over that stretch of time with two strikeouts.

In the second game, Queens led by a 2-0 score after a half-inning as Matt Encizo scored when Eric Roubal reached on a throwing error; Roubal later scored on an RBI single by Antos. The Owls would put up two runs in the first inning against Queens starter Danny Gargano to even the score and the Knights re-took a brief lead in the second on a sacrifice hit by Jon Strauss. However, Southern Connecticut re-took the lead with a six-run second inning as Mike Ferrett's three-run home run knocked Gargano out of the game and put the Owls up by an 8-3 score. The Knights mustered just two more runs on a run-scoring double play off the bat of Antos in the seventh inning and an RBI single from Joe O'Rourke in the same frame.

Queens will host nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire, the top team in the East Region according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), on Monday at 3 p.m.
