AMHERST, N.Y. (Mar. 4, 2020) - Junior guard
Elijah Bovell became the newest member of the 1,000-point club for the Queens College men's basketball team on Wednesday (Mar. 4) but the 27-point effort was not enough as the No. 6 Knights fell to third-seed Daemen by a 90-76 score in an ECC First Round match-up at Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst, N.Y.
Queens finishes the season with an 8-18 record while the Wildcats advance to the conference semifinals this weekend to face second-seed St. Thomas Aquinas.
Bovell's 27 points also gave him another milestone for the historical annals of the Queens College men's basketball program. The Baldwin native reached the 500-point plateau in the contest as well, becoming the first Knight to score that many points in a season since Jeremiah Mordi crossed that marker in the 2014-15 season.
Dwayne Henry Jr. had a 15-point effort off the bench with
Tyrese Crosdale scoring 11 points and
Shomari Redd pouring in 10 points as well. Redd added five rebounds and five assists while Bovell collected six boards and two steals in the effort.
Andrew Sischo set a Daemen record with 47 points on the night, adding 15 rebounds and hitting 19-of-29 from the floor. Joey Wallace and Breon Harris added 13 and 12, respectively.
The Knights trailed by a 43-40 margin at the halftime break and kept pace with the Wildcats to the mid-point of the second half with a Henry three-pointer getting QC within a 62-60 margin. Prior to this, Bovell knocked down a three-pointer at the 14:41 mark of the second half to officially score his 1,000th career point. After an 8-1 run for the hosts primarily set up by Sischo, Henry and Bovell hit consecutive jumpers to bring Queens back within a three-point game at 70-67 with seven minutes remaining in regulation. The Knights would get no closer, however, as a 10-0 run by Daemen cemented the contest and led to what was a 20-9 scoring edge for the hosts over the final minutes of play.
