DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2020) – A critical 17-0 run to close out the first half helped the Queens College men's basketball team prevail in a key East Coast Conference tilt against Mercy College on Saturday (Feb. 22). The Knights' 61-46 victory versus the Mavericks propelled Queens to 8-17 on the year and 6-9 in East Coast Conference play while Mercy fell to 5-20 on the year and 3-12 in league action.

Elijah Bovell led Queens with 13 points, four steals and three rebounds and was one of three players in double figures on the day. David Grady III added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Knights in the win while Dwayne Henry Jr. posted a ten-point effort off the bench. Eddie Mehmetaj was a force off the bench as well for Queens, pulling down 13 rebounds on the day.

Bryan Griffin had a double-double with 28 points and 20 rebounds for Mercy, shooting 10-for-21 from the floor. However, the rest of the Mavericks went just 7-for-38 from the field in the loss.

The tide turned in Queens' favor with eight minutes to play in the first half, following a pair of Griffin free throws that put Mercy up by a 21-18 score. Tyrese Crosdale nailed a treble off a Henry steal to tie the game with less than seven minutes remaining and Shomari Redd hit a three-pointer of his own to give Queens a 24-21 lead with five minutes to play. The run would continue with a three-pointer by Bovell, two lay-ups from Mehmetaj as well as free throws from Grady and a Henry bucket to give QC a 35-21 lead at the half.
