Volleyball Shows Grit in Three-Set Losses to Franklin Pierce and Wilmington Sunday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2019) - The Queens College volleyball team closed out its opening weekend of games on Sunday (Sept. 8) by hosting a tri-match with Franklin Pierce and Wilmington (Del.) at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing, N.Y. Though the Knights were game in both contests, the results did not match the fight and effort as QC was swept by both opponents to conclude the Long Island Invitational.

Queens dropped a three-set decision to Franklin Pierce in the morning by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-11 before being swept by Wilmington (Del.) in a 25-16, 25-16, 26-24 contest.

Knights That Shined, Part One
  • In the first match with Franklin Pierce, senior Lauren Kehoe posted a team-high eight kills while sophomore Dee-Ana Mitchell added seven kills and seven digs.
  • Setter Alisha Matthews dished out 24 assists in the effort against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce and Maryjane D'Agostino showcased her back-row play with a team-best 11 digs.
Knights That Shined, Part Two
  • Mitchell collected a double-double with ten kills and eleven digs against Wilmington while Briana Green added six kills and a team-best .294 hitting percentage.
  • Matthews posted 22 assists and five digs, bolstering her outing with four service aces as well. Kehoe accrued nine digs and five kills.
  • Genesis Soto Ruiz notched seven digs in the effort as well to go along with two assists.
Up Next on the Docket
