Box Score MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (Sept. 20, 2019) - Utilizing nine available players on the roster, the Queens College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-0 shutout victory over Post University on Friday (Sept. 20) at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Facility in Middlebury, Conn.
The Knights earned the doubles point over the host Eagles (2-2) by sweeping away all three tandems.
Luisa Auffarth and
Maja Makal breezed through a 6-2 win at the top grouping of singles while
Louisa Brunetti and
Lovisa Engstrand took the No. 2 doubles by the same score-line.
Gabriela Sciarrotta and
Araceli Bel Aleixendri were 6-0 victors in the third-tandem of doubles play.
Queens took care of all six singles matches with relative ease as well. Makal had the toughest draw at the No. 2 flight with Areej Fareh; the ITA East Region champion won a three-set battle by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8). Auffarth and Engstrand were straight-set winners in their tandems as were
Ruth Artaza Martin,
Mana Koitabashi and
Marisa Ostoja.
The Knights will be back in action on the outdoor courts of the Queens College Tennis Center on Saturday (Sept. 21) as Queens hosts Molloy in East Coast Conference action at 2 p.m.
