Sweep Complete! Baseball Drops Lincoln in Sunday Doubleheader to Win Four-Game Series

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (Apr. 7, 2019) - For the second time this season, the Queens College baseball team has swept a four-game series with doubleheader victories on a Saturday and a Sunday. The Knights completed the series sweep of East Coast Conference foe Lincoln University on Sunday (Apr. 7), posting wins of 11-2 and 13-5 to defeat the Lions at LU Baseball Field.

Queens improved to 17-11-1 overall on the 2019 campaign and the Knights now possess a 7-5 record in East Coast Conference play, good for a tie for third place with Bridgeport as QC heads into the teeth of conference season.

Game One: Queens (NY) 11, Lincoln (Pa.) 2
Michael Lamneck got the start in the first game of the day for Queens, but it was his offense that staked the Knights' starter out to a 3-0 lead before he even reached the mound. Joe O'Rourke's RBI double in the top of the first inning opened the floodgates with the Knights getting two more runs in thanks to a passed ball and a run-scoring groundout from Eric Roubal. The Knights scored the first nine runs of the contest, leading Lincoln by a 9-0 score after six-and-a-half innings as QC played mostly small ball to build the large advantage. Singles by Roubal and Ronmel Ocampo as well as a sacrifice fly by Brian Watters helped stake QC out to the lead as the Knights also took advantage of four Lincoln errors to coast to the victory.

Louis Antos and Ron Linsalato had two hits in the contest as did Roubal, with the Knights collecting ten hits in total in the victory. Lamneck yielded just one unearned run over his seven innings of work, striking out 12 batters in picking up the victory.

Game Two: Queens (NY) 13, Lincoln (Pa.) 5 - Seven Innings
In the proverbial nightcap, Queens once again took the early lead as Linsalato's sacrifice fly scored Jon Strauss with the opening run in the first inning of play. A second-inning grounder by Ocampo scored another run and the Knights put a three-spot up in the third inning on a two-run single from Matt Gutleber and an RBI base-knock off the bat of Nick Font. The Lions, however, tagged QC starter Jack Palma for four runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the deficit to a 5-4 margin. The Knights responded with three runs in the fourth including a two-run double by Antos that gave QC an 8-4 lead. After both sides scored a run in the fifth inning, Queens drove in the final four runs in the sixth and seventh with RBI base hits by Antos and Ocampo (a two-run single) paying dividends for the Knights.

Antos and Font both collected three hits in the win with Antos and Ocampo driving in three runs to lead QC to the victory. Palma struck out four batters in his three innings of work while John Rodopoulos pitched three innings of relief with four strikeouts and picked up the win. Dimitri Papazoglou twirled a scoreless seventh inning of relief to close the door on Lincoln.

Queens will begin a four-game series with Molloy on Friday (Apr. 12) beginning with a 3 p.m. contest at Hennekens Stadium in Flushing.
