Lamneck and McGee Combine to Lift Baseball to 4-0 Shutout over STAC Sunday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2019) - Michael Lamneck and James McGee combined to pitch a six-hitter as Eric Roubal and Joe O'Rourke drove in three runs to help the Queens College baseball team take down Saint Thomas Aquinas on Sunday (Apr. 28) by a 4-0 final score at Hennekens Stadium.

Queens (23-18-1, 12-11 ECC) tagged STAC (18-23, 10-13 ECC) starting pitcher Chris Cepeda for two runs in the bottom of the first inning to capture an early lead. With one out on the board, Anthony Scotti singled to right field before Louis Antos walloped a double to deep left-center field to put runners in scoring position. O'Rourke was intentionally walked to bring up Roubal, who greeted Cepeda's first pitch by smashing the offering to right-center field tor a two-run double to put the Knights ahead by a 2-0 score. The 2-0 lead held until the bottom of the sixth inning when O'Rourke took a 1-0 pitch from Cepeda and sent a majestic, towering home run over the right-field fence and onto the adjoining practice field as Queens took a three-run advantage. The Knights scored another run in the bottom of the eighth as Jon Strauss hit a lead-off double and then scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Antos.

Lamneck, meanwhile, was in cruise control for the first four innings and then completed three Houdini-like innings of work to keep the Spartans off the board through seven innings. In the fifth, he worked out of a no-out jam with runners at second and third. Lamneck then stranded a runner at third base in the sixth and completed his outing by leaving runners on the corners in the top of the seventh inning. McGee came in for the final two innings and was nearly immaculate in the eighth with two strikeouts and a ground-out to shortstop. In the ninth, the Spartans loaded the bases with one out but McGee struck out pinch hitter Dylan Klock and then forced Andrew Jemison to bounce out to second base to end the game.

Strauss had two hits for Queens and set an impressive plateau in his rookie season as Sunday marked his 20th multi-hit game of the year. Lamneck struck out six batters in seven innings to pick up the win while McGee struck out four in his two innings of relief to earn the save.

Queens will host Saint Thomas Aquinas on Monday (Apr. 29) to wrap up the series at Hennekens Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
