Late-Inning Heroics Lift Baseball to 11-10 Win over Stonehill Wednesday

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (Mar. 6, 2019) - Matt Gutleber singled home the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Queens College baseball team completed a scintillating rally to upend Stonehill by an 11-10 score on Wednesday (Mar. 6) at the Santaluces Athletic Complex.

Queens (3-2-1) needed a run in the ninth inning on a single by Ron Linsalato to even push the contest to extra innings, as the Knights could not hold onto a 9-6 lead in the late stages of regulation. The Knights put up six runs in the fifth inning against the Skyhawks as well, after being down by a 6-0 score after three innings of play.

Jesse Spellman went 4-for-5 in the win with two doubles and three runs batted in, while Gutleber collected three hits (including a double and a triple) and two RBIs. Eric Roubal added three hits with Linsalato, Jon Strauss, Louis Antos and Nick Font each contributing a two-hit contest for QC.

James McGee (1-0) picked up the victory in relief, tossing two and one-third scoreless innings while striking out three batters and surrendering one hit. Dylan Hughes started the contest for the Knights, lasting five innings while allowing five runs on ten hits with two strikeouts.

The Queens College baseball team will face off with Wilmington University on Thursday (Mar. 7) at 1 p.m. in a game that will take place at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
