Philo Continues Three-Point Prowess as Women's Basketball Faces Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Nov. 13, 2019) - Freshman guard Harmony Philo led the Queens College women's basketball team with 14 points and hit four three-pointers but the Knights were unable to overcome a tricky defense from Southern Connecticut State as the Owls won a 63-51 contest Wednesday (Nov. 13) at James Moore Field House in New Haven.

Queens (1-2) committed 29 turnovers in the game, leading to 33 points for Southern Connecticut (3-0). Kiana Steinauer had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Owls in the win. Aaliyah Walker added 15 points for SCSU and Imani Wheeler posted a ten-point performance.

For QC, reigning East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Raiana Brown continued an impressive start to her season with 13 points and eight rebounds. Zorria West also added 13 points along with seven boards while Brianne Moxley scored six points and pulled down five rebounds in the effort as well.

Queens led 4-2 in the first quarter on a West bucket in the paint with one minute played in the contest, but the Owls went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to boost the hosts to a 25-12 lead after one quarter of play. The Knights attempted to play catch up and cut the lead to ten points in the third quarter on a free throw by Tayanee Peay but the Owls never led by less than a ten-point margin.

The Knights will head up to Syracuse on Saturday (Nov. 16) to face Le Moyne at Ted Grant Court. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
