PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2019) - Junior forward
Zorria West scored 12 points to lead the Queens College women's basketball team in what would become a 64-54 loss to Chestnut Hill on Sunday (Nov. 10) at Sorgenti Arena in Philadelphia.
West shot 5-for-11 from the floor and added two rebounds and two assists in the effort while freshman center
Raiana Brown contributed 12 points and seven rebounds along with three blocks. Sophomore guard
Nora Gabel scored nine points off the bench as
Tayanee Peay and
Harmony Philo each chipped in with eight points apiece. Philo added five rebounds, Peay collected three assists and
Brianne Moxley had a solid all-around game with five points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Chestnut Hill's Lauren Crim scored a game-high 25 points, hitting 9-of-20 from the floor and five three-pointers while the Griffins also had a strong afternoon from Leah Miller (12 points, 10 rebounds).
The Knights led by a 17-16 margin after one quarter on account of a West jumper before the buzzer, but Chestnut Hill held QC to a 5-for-16 shooting performance in the second quarter to take a 32-29 halftime lead. QC regained the lead in the third quarter as Peay put the Knights ahead by a 41-40 margin with a minute to play in the frame, however the host Griffins once again locked down on defense and held the Knights to a 6-for-13 effort from the floor in the final eleven minutes of play.
Queens shot 45% (23-51) from the floor in the game, but the Knights committed 17 turnovers which were turned into 19 points for the Griffins.
Queens returns to action on Wednesday (Nov. 13) at 5:30 p.m. as the Knights face the Owls of Southern Connecticut State at James Moore Field House in New Haven.
