STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team suffered its first setback of the spring season on Friday, falling in a 6-1 decision to NCAA Division I opponent Stony Brook University on the road. The Knights fall to 13-3 overall with their first road defeat of the season, while the Seawolves improve to 5-9.
Stony Brook opened by taking the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 victories at first and second doubles. The Seawolves then added wins at first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles to take the 6-1 victory.
Senior Angelika Sobiecka earned the lone win for Queens. She defeated Ester Chikvashvili in three sets, 6-3, 0-6, 11-9 at No. 3 singles. Sobiecka improves to 12-1 on the year with her fifth consecutive singles win.
The Knights, ranked second in the NCAA East Regional Rankings and 44th in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings, will wait for Tuesday, April 25, for the NCAA Selection Show to see what lies ahead.
