Men's Soccer Stopped By LIU Post In ECC Opener

Box Score

BROOKEVILLE, N.Y. - A pair of second-half goals proved to be the difference as the Queens College men's soccer team fell to #8 LIU Post 2-0 Saturday afternoon in the team's East Coast Conference opener.  The loss is the first blemish of the season on the record of the Knights, who now stand at 3-1-2 overall on the year.  LIU Post remains undefeated at 6-0-0.

In a game in which the Pioneers outshot QC 21-5, it was a matter of when and not if the home squad would be able to break through.  In the opening half, LIU Post outshot Queens 7-3, but both teams were unable to find the back of the net.

The Pioneers' best chance in the first 45 came in the 29th minute when David Arvidsson's penalty kick attempt was stopped by QC senior goalie James Brostowski.  QC's Nikolas Maher's 14th minute attempt was stopped by LIU Post goalie while Najib Ullah's shot in the 41st minute off a corner kick was stopped in front.

In the second half, LIU Post dialed up the pressure and took 14 shots.  The Pioneers took the first five shots of the period, forcing two more stops by Brostowski.

In the 72nd minute, LIU Post broke through on Joey Forgaard's first goal of the season.  Off a low cross into the box by Nico Kjaer Andersen, Forgaard found a space in the left corner to take a 1-0 lead.  With less than a minute remaining, the Pioneers pushed their second goal across.  After a QC turnover, Carlie Ledula found the net off assists by Sean Collins and Forgaard.

Ullah led the Knights with two shots, while Brostowski was credited with four stops. Jesper Malmstrom was credited with the clean sheet for LIU Post.

UP NEXT: Queens begins a four-game home stand Wednesday afternoon against Chestnut Hill (4:00 pm).
