QUEENS, N.Y. - Last year, the Queens College women's tennis completed its season ranked 25th in the country and second in the East, and Saturday morning it opened the 2015 fall campaign with an 8-1 ECC victory over Daemen. Queens is now 1-0 in ECC play and Daemen falls to 1-1 in the ECC.
Last year's All ECC Second Team players: Angelika Sobiecka, Andrea Samson and Cami Abdallah all won their singles and doubles matches to start off the new season. Sumeera Kamil played outstanding doubles with Andrea Samson winning their match at first doubles 8-1. Three freshmen made their Queens College winning debuts: Line Aasen of Norway and Anne Strating of the Netherlands won their third doubles match 8-1 and Frederike Boerner of Germany won the fifth singles 6-1, 6-0 and Aasen also won in singles 6-0, 6-0 to start their seasons off on the right foot.
Queens will next play West Liberty of West Virginia Sunday afternoon, a tough opponent that has reached the NCAA Championships each of the last five years. The match will be held at QC starting at 1:00pm.
