Box Score

Brookville, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team took a huge step towards cementing its spot in the East Coast Conference playoffs on Saturday; with a late, second half rally that forced overtime and helped the Knights win, 63-55, in overtime.  With the win, Queens is now 18-6 overall and 13-4 in the ECC.

QC trailed by 13 with 6:02 left in regulation, when the late rally commenced.  A Madison Rowland layup got the Knights with 11, at 49-38.  Stingy defense led to a Post turnover and a Kristen Korzevinski jumper made the score 49-40.  The next five points came from Madison Rowland, with two baskets coming from Pioneers' turnovers.

A pair of Madison Rowland free throws pulled the Knights within two, at 49-47, with just over a minute remaining.  LIU Post finally made a basket to go up four with less than a minute left.  An Elisabeth Gully layup put Queens down two, at 51-49.  Finally, with 0:18 remaining, Gully went to the line with a chance to tie the game.  She calmly buried both foul shots to send the game into overtime tied at 51-51.

The Knights pulled away in overtime, outscoring the Pioneers, 12-4, to go on and win 63-55.

Early in the game, both sides controlled play on the defensive ends, as both teams struggled to score.  Down a point with 7:30 left in the first half, the Knights rallied courtesy of an 8-0 run that put QC up seven, 21-14.  Madison Rowland scored six of those points and Korzevinski scored the other basket.  Queens led at the half, 25-22.

LIU Post took the lead just three minutes into the second half.  The Knights trailed the entire half until the Gully foul shots tied the score with 0:18 left.

In the win, Madison Rowland had a game-high 25 points and 13 rebounds.  MacKenzie Rowland  grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds.  Korzevinski finished with 14 points.

In addition to her 14-point output, Korzevinski held Chelsea Williams, the ECC's leading scorer,  to just 2-16 shooting in the game and forced her into five turnovers.  In fact, her first field goal didn't come until the second half.

With the victory, the Knights completed the season sweep of the Pioneers.  The team returns to action on Tuesday, February 24, when they host Molloy at 5:30 PM.
