Women's Hoops Moves To 2-0 With Win Over Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Red-shirt Senior MacKenzie Rowland posted a career high 28 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Queens College women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 76-69 victory over Holy Family Sunday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Rowland, in 32 minutes off the bench, connected on 10 field goals in the game, one shy of a career best, and corralled nine boards on both the offensive and defensive ends.  Senior Kristen Korzevinski posted 17 points in the game, connecting on three trifectas, to go along with four assists.  Junior Madison Rowland registered 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals in the contest.

The Knights found themselves behind by seven after the opening period, as Holy Family led 20-13 after the first ten minutes.  An 11-4 run to start the second period evened the score at 24, before a layup by freshman Kaitlyn Mahon pushed the Knights ahead 26-24 with 3:44 left in the first half.  It marked QC's first lead of the contest since 2-0.

The teams exchanged the lead four times before the end of the half, before a jumper by Mac. Rowland with four second remaining in the stanza pushed Queens ahead 35-32 at half.

Six straight points in the first minute of the second half gave the Knights a 41-32 lead.  A three by Kristen Korzevinski gave QC a 49-39 advantage with 5:01 left in the third period.  From there, the Tigers widdled away at the deficit, as a jumper by Kasey Woetzel trimmed the margin to six, 56-50, entering the fourth.

Early in the fourth, three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Holy Family's Jill Conroy and Erin Fenningham tied the game at 58-58 at the 8:16 mark.  Ahead 66-60, Queens once again saw the Tigers come back as a pair of free throws by Woetzel tied the game at 66-66. 

On the next Queens possession, Mad. Rowland hit a three-pointer to give the Knights the lead for good, at 69-66 with 3:16 on the clock.   The two teams did not record a point until two free throws by Korzevinski put Queens ahead by five with 34 second remaining.

The Knights held Holy Family scoreless until Fenningham hit a jumper with 29 seconds remaining.  Queens converted 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the final 34 seconds to seal the victory.

The Knights resume non-conference action Sunday, Nov. 29 when it begins their home slate against Assumption at 3:30 pm.
