Amherst, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team made it a perfect, 3-0 road trip by following up a win over Roberts Wesleyan on Friday with an 80-44 victory at Daemen on Sunday. They had beaten Bridgeport last week on the road. Kristen Korzevinski had a game-high with 27 points.
The Knights scored the first five points of the contest courtesy of a Kristen Korzevinski three-pointer and another basket from MacKenzie Rowland. A Leah McDonell layup pulled the Panthers within one, at 7-6, with 15:50 on the clock. From there, Queens took over. Over the next 5:05 of gametime, QC used a 17-0 run to pull ahead 24-6. Gardner accoutned for seven of the points during that scoring spree. The largest lead in the half for the Knights, 19 points, came when a pair of Korzevinski foul shots made the score 44-25 with 1:32 left. Queens led at the intermission, 44-28.
A Madison Rowland three-pointer off a Marie Byrnes steal less than two minutes into the second half put the Knights up 21, 49-28. A Garnder layup at 2:36 gave Queens its largest lead of the game, 38-points. Queens went on to win 80-44.
Korzevinski scored a game-high 27 points on 11-22 shooting. Melissa Gardner's 6-10 shooting day helped contribute to her double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Madison Rowland finished with 12 points.
With the win, QC is now 15-5 overall and 11-3 in the East Coast Conference. The Queens College women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, February 12, when they host St. Thomas Aquinas. The game is slated for 5:00 PM and is part of the national Women and Girls in Sports Day initiative.
