Three Knights in Double Figures in 78-60 Win Over Dominican

Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Queens College women's basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 78-60 win over Dominican College in a game played in Orangeburg, New York on Wednesday.  MacKenzie Rowland and Madison Rowland had double-doubles, while Kristen Korzevinski finished with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

The first two minutes of play saw both sides jockeying for position.  Eventually the score was level at 5-5, with the five QC points coming from a Korzevinski layup, a MacKenzie Rowland foul shot and a pair of Madison Rowland free throws.  From there, the Chargers jumped ahead, 12-5, using a 7-0 run to take the big lead at 16:45.

Queens countered with an 8-0 run of the next two-and-a-half-minutes.  The run put QC up 13-12.  Madison Rowland and Korzevinski each scored four points on the scoring spree.  The Knights pushed the lead up to eight points in the first half when Melissa Fumano made a basket with 3:16 remaining to make the score 33-25.  QC led by one at the half.

The second half began with Dominican grabbing a 44-41 lead early in the action.  Queens pulled within one when Madison Rowland scored on a put back and they took the lead for good when  she buried a layup at 14:13.  The Knights pulled away from there, getting a ten point cushion when Fumano sank the first of two foul shots with 5:25 left.  The Knights got buckets from Janeen McFarlane and Twanda Holder in the final 0:30 seconds and won the game 78-60.

In the win, Madison Rowland posted her second straight double-double, finishing with a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds.  Big sister, MacKenzie Rowland had a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks.  Korzevinski had 19 points and shot 7-8 from the charity stripe.  Fumano finished with a season-high eight points for her.

The Queens College women's basketball team has its home opener on Tuesday, November 25, when they host Nyack.  The opening tip is at 6:00 PM.
