Three Knights Reach Double-Figures in Scoring in Loss to Saint Michael's

Colchester, Vt. - A season ago, the Queens College women's basketball team opened the season with a pair of wins over Northeast 10 opponents at the Doubletree Tip-Off Classic.  This season, they will look to go 1-1 in Colchester, as they fell to Saint Michael's, 60-58, in a contest played in the Ross Sports Center on Friday.  MacKenzie Rowland, Kristen Korzevinski and Imani Davidson each reached double figures in scoring for Queens.


After the Purple Knights took a 3-0 lead, Queens responded and eventually led 4-3 on baskets by Davidson and MacKenzie Rowland.  The Knights pushed the lead to 8-3 on a layup and a pair of foul shots from Madison Rowland at 15:42.  QC led by as many as 11 points, when Taylor Miller got a rebound and started a fast break that led to a Korzevinski basket that made the score 14-3, with 13:07 left.  The Knights held Saint Michael's scoreless from 18:32 to 12:51 in the half, a period of 5:41.  Queens led 28-17 at the half.


QC got its largest lead, 18-point, on a three-point-play from MacKenzie Rowland with 16:26 left in the second half.  The hoop and harm made the score 38-20.


Saint Michael's rallied from there.  They slowly chipped away at the lead and took a 58-57 advantage on a pair of free throws with 1:18 on the clock.  MacKenzie Rowland converted the second of two foul shots with 0:20 remaining and the Knights railed, 59-58.  The Purple Knights made a free throw with five seconds left, which set up the final play of the game.


The Knights had a chance to win on the final possession of the game.  Afer a missed foul shot from the Purple Knights, QC brought the ball down court, put up a fake and got a shot off after the buzzer had sounded.


In addition to Miller and Davidson, Amber Harrison, Melissa Fumano and Janeen McFarlane all made their QC debuts.  Madison Rowland, the nation's leader in steals per game as a freshman, grabbed a game-high six thefts in the contest.  The Knights close out the Doubletree Tip-Off Classic with a matchup against Franklin Pierce on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
