Lawrence Nikaj Scores First Goal of the Season in 2-1 Loss to LIU Post

Brookville, N.J. - The Queens College men's soccer team fell to LIU Post, 2-1, in an East Coast Conference game played in Brookville, New York on Sunday.  Lawrence Nikaj scored the goal for the Knights.

The Pioneers were on the offensive early, attemptings all the shots in the first 20 miuntes of play.  In the 20th minute, after five shots didn't find the goal, the sixth one was a score and LIU Post led 1-0.

Post would take two more shots before the Knights countered.  It was Glen Reid who ripped a shot at goal in the 26th minute, but it was saved and LIU Post still led 1-0.  In the closing seconds of the first half, Aitor Gurruchaga took a shot on goal that nearly tied the game, but was saved by the Pioneers' keeper.  LIU Post led 1-0 at the half.

The Pioneers made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 68th minute.  Despite allowing two goals, James Brostowski made four saves.  The Knights finally got on the board in the 82nd minute.  After a QC free kick was deflected into the box, Nikaj gathered it in an beats the keeper into the lower-right corner.  Queens was back in the game, trailing 2-1.

Brostowski made another save in the closing minutes, but the Knights never got the equalizer and lost 2-1.  With the defeat, the team is now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in ECC play.  The team returns to action on Tuesday, October 7, when they face Saint Anselm on the road.  The opening kick is slated for 3:30 PM.
