Queens, N.Y. - The start of any new season brings a myriad of new faces on the pitch, but for the Queens College men's soccer team, the goal scorer was a new-but familiar-face as senior, forward, Peter Touros returned from a year-long injury hiatus, found the back of the net off a Glen Reid assist in a 2-1 setback to Bentley on Thursday.  With the loss, Queens falls to 0-1, while the Falcons open 1-0.

The first half began with both sides struggling to create any offensive chances.  The Knights were especially strong in the midfield as Reid, Scott Lamont and Tyler Iocco controlled the defensive part of the center of the pitch.

The Falcons broke through the defense to grab a 1-0 advantage in the 18^th minute as Scott Levy cleaned up a shot by Justin Cirasola that caromed off the post and beat Sean Geoghegan, who came off his line to play the ball.  The Knights nearly had the equalizer three minutes later as a long ball by Jose Lopez went just past a sprinting Paul Sandoval and into the waiting arms of Nick Gagnon for an easy save.

Queens had two strong opportunities to level the match in the following minutes.  In the 27^th minute, after earning a yellow card on Bentley, Glen Reid lifted a shot into the box that found the head of Aitor Gurrutxaga, who headed it towards the low, far corner of the net.  Gagnon was up to the task and quickly caught the shot.

At the half hour mark, QC nearly evened the game again, this time off some hustling from the midfield.  Calvin Moyes made a strong pass to Reid on the wing and Reid drew a foul from the defender.  From the restart, Reid found Lopez, who darted into the box and put a shot off the post.

The Falcons pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 36^th minute when Levy connected on his second marker of the contest.  On a fifty-fifty ball deep into the Knights' defensive end, Levy outran the competition and beat Geoghegan to the near side for the tally.

The second half saw the Knights push the ball forward in an effort to get on the scoreboard.  The persistence was seemingly rewarded when another newcomer, Pol Narbona got his head on a shot that hit the crossbar and went out-of-bounds, keeping the score at 2-0.  Less than five minutes later, the Knights would get on the scoreboard.

Following a restart, Reid blasted a shot that beat Gagnon to his right.  The ball careened off the post and on to the feet of Touros, who calmly chipped it back across the goal and into the back of the net; bringing the score to 2-1, Falcons.

Reid would be involved in another scoring chance for the Knights.  In the 82^nd minute, off a corner kick, Reid hooked up with Narbona again and the big man put his head to a shot that forced Gagnon to make a save.  Bentley held on for the 2-1 victory.

The Knights have a day off on Friday, but return to the pitch on Saturday, September 7, when they host the West Chester Golden Rams.  The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
