Women's Tennis Opens conference Play with 9-0 Rout of Molloy

Knights Win Every Match in Straight Sets

Queens, N.Y. - The Queens College women's tennis team opened conference play in 2013-14 with a 9-0 blanking of Molloy on Thursday in Flushing.  The team has opened the 2013-14 campaign right where it left off a season ago, dominating the competition.  In this victory, the Knights didn't drop a set in either singles or doubles play.

In singles competition, all six QC competitors won in straight set.  From first singles, Jenna Plevako won 6-1, 6-0.  The second position saw Jennifer Fridman triumph, 6-1, 6-1.  From the third slot, the 2012-13 ECC Rookie of the Year, Andrea Samson, took care of her opponent, 6-0, 6-3.  The fourth slot saw Darby Brandon, 6-0, 6-2.  The fifth slot had Anna Rodionova emerge victorious, 6-1, 6-0.  The final singles position saw Kim Xiong win, 6-1, 6-1.

Queens dominated the doubles play too as the team of Weronika Kurka and Plevako won their match, 8-1.  Newcomer Aylin Mehter joined with Fridman and the duo triumphed, 8-1.  The final pairing of Samson and Brandon, didn't drop a single game, winning their doubles match, 8-0.

The Queens College women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, September 15.  They will host Le Moyne College at 11:00 AM.
