Mens Soccer Falls to LIU Post, 1-0 on Senior Day

Box Score

Flushing, N.Y. - It was a bittersweet Saturday in Flushing for the Queens College men's soccer team as the team lost in its season finale, 1-0, to LIU Post, but honored the eight seniors playing in their final game for the Knights.  QC honored Metri Abdul-Karim, Scott Cain, Sean Geoghegan, Tyler Iocco, Scott Lamont, Jose Lopez, Peter Touros  and Julian Zamora.

The game began with the Knights pressing the action early, even though it was just a game for pride, the emotion was palpable from the start.  It was the seniors that were making an impact in their final game as Iocco and Lopez had scoring chances in the first half, while Geoghegan made a pair of daring saves within seconds of each other, in the 35th minute to keep the Pioneers off the board.  The game was scoreless at the half.

Things got a bit more chippy in the second half as the Knights saw two players go off with red cards and four other Queens players get whistled for yellow cards.  LIU Post was able to capitalize on the two-man advantage.

In the 74th minute, Erik Bjoernoe flicked the ball into the box where Johann Kristjansson put a heel on it and put it past Geoghegan for the goal.  The Pioneers had a 1-0 lead.

Queens tried to rally late as Touros and Aitor Gurruxtchaga forced the LIU Post keeper to make a pair of saves.  The game ended by that 1-0 score.

The Queens College men's soccer team finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 9-5-3, including a 4-4-2 record in the East Coast Conference.
