Washington, D.C. - The Queens College women's
tennis team continued its strong play this season with an 8-1
thumping of the Unversity of the District of Columbia on Saturday
in Washington. The team is now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the
East Coast Conference.
Queens got the onslaught started early as they swept all three
doubles matches. The first team of Weronika Kurka and Jenna
Plevako were victorious 8-4. The combination of Aylin Mehter
and Jennifer Fridman triumphed, 8-3 and the team of Anna Rodionova
and Darby Brandon came out on top, 8-4.
In singles play, the Knights won five of six matches, all five
in straight sets. The highlight in singles came from Brandon,
who didn't drop a game as she won love and love. Plevako and
Mehter each won their matches 6-1, 6-2, while Rodionova won 6-4,
6-1. Finally, Andrea Samson took her match, 6-4, 6-3.
The Queens College women's tennis team returns to action on
Sunday, October 6, when they face Georgetown in Washington.
The first serve with the Hoyas is scheduled for 11:0 AM.
