Queens College Women's Tennis Defeats UDC in Opening Round of ECC Tennis Championship

Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College women's tennis team set up a rematch of last year's East Coast Conference championship by disposing of the University of the District of Columbia, 6-0, in a match played at Queens College in Flushing on Friday afternoon.  The Knights will face top-seeded NYIT in the final.

QC opened the match by picking up all three points in doubles competition.  The team of Aylin Mehter and Jennifer Fridman opened play with an 8-0 win over Maxime Duijst and Peerad Looareesuwan.  From there, Weronika Kurka and Jenna Plevako disposed of Tamara Kenia and Jessica Nunez, 8-3.  Finally, the combination of Anna Rodionova and Andrea Samson triumphed over Sofia Leon and Alicia Gallard, 8-6.

The Knights entered singles play needing only three points to take the match.  Darby Brandon picked up the first of the three points with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sofia Leon.  Rodionova gave QC their fifth point with a 6-4, 7-5 win.  Finally, Queens put the match away when Jenna Plevako won her match over Tamara Kenia, 6-0, 6-1.

The Knights improved to 11-1 on the season and will face NYIT in the championship on Saturday at 11:00 AM in Flushing.  The Bears handed Queens their only loss of the year, when the two sides met earlier in 2013.
