Season Highs in Points and Rebounds for Joya McFarland not Enough as Knights Fall to Dowling, 54-38

(Oakdale, N.Y.) - Women's basketball freshman Joya McFarland (Bronx, N.Y./JFK) posted season-highs in points and rebounds with nine apiece, but it wasn't enough as Queens College fell to Dowling, 54-38 in a game played in Oakdale, New York, on Wednesday.  The Knights are now 4-7 overall, 1-3 in East Coast Conference play.

The Knights owned the early lead in the game as McFarland opened the scoring with a foul shot and Marie Byrnes (Brooklyn, N.Y/Rutgers Prep) made a layup to give QC a 3-0 lead at the 17:48 mark.  The Golden Lions then got hot and closed out the half with a 29-8 run, turning a 3-0 deficit into a 29-11 advantage.

The second half featured a 6-0 run from the Knights, ranging from the 7:51 mark to the 5:46 mark.  During that run, leading scorer Bria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) had a three-point during the stretch as Catherine Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y./Hewlett) and McFarland added foul shots.  Dowling went on to win, 54-38.

Jackson led all scorers with 13 points, and she has reached double-figures in scoring every game this season.  McFarland also picked up a game-high seven steals.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, January 12, when they face Molloy College at home.  The matchup against the Lions is slated for 2:00 PM.
