(Oakdale, N.Y.) - Women's basketball
freshman Joya McFarland (Bronx, N.Y./JFK) posted season-highs in
points and rebounds with nine apiece, but it wasn't enough as
Queens College fell to Dowling, 54-38 in a game played in Oakdale,
New York, on Wednesday. The Knights are now 4-7 overall, 1-3
in East Coast Conference play.
The Knights owned the early lead in the game as McFarland opened
the scoring with a foul shot and Marie Byrnes (Brooklyn,
N.Y/Rutgers Prep) made a layup to give QC a 3-0 lead at the 17:48
mark. The Golden Lions then got hot and closed out the half
with a 29-8 run, turning a 3-0 deficit into a 29-11
advantage.
The second half featured a 6-0 run from the Knights, ranging
from the 7:51 mark to the 5:46 mark. During that run, leading
scorer Bria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) had a
three-point during the stretch as Catherine Pastor (Hewlett,
N.Y./Hewlett) and McFarland added foul shots. Dowling went on
to win, 54-38.
Jackson led all scorers with 13 points, and she has reached
double-figures in scoring every game this season. McFarland
also picked up a game-high seven steals.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, January 12, when they
face Molloy College at home. The matchup against the Lions is
slated for 2:00 PM.
