Women's Tennis Loses Heartbreaker to NYIT in ECC Final

 The host Knights, were the overall #1 seed, and the game came down to the very last match before the outcome was decided.

The doubles matches were held first and the Bears jumped out to the early lead as their team of Sara Burinato and Madalina Florea defeated Andrea Samson (Key Biscayne, Fla./La Salle) and Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y./LaGuardia) 8-6. From there, the Knights evened the score at 1-1 as Anna Rodionova (Orenburg, Russia/Schiller International) and Darby Brandon (Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock) defeated Gaby Rodriguez and Valeria Savina, 8-5.  NYIT captured the final doubles match as their top flight of Nelly Ciolkowski and Rocio Benavent beat Erika Goldsmith (Edison, N.J./Edison) and Jennifer Fridman (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), 9-7.

The singles flight also came down to the last match as play commenced with Ciolkowski defeating Goldsmith, 6-0, 6-2.  From there, Samson gave the Knights another point by defeating Benavent, 6-2, 6-0.  Fridman triumphed over Rodriguez, two and two, to even the overall match.  NYIT regained the lead as Burinato beat Fanchin, 6-3, 6-4.  In her only match of the day, Daniela Celi (Casselberry, Fla./Lake Howell) tied the score for the second time as she defeated Savina, 6-2, 7-5.  With the match all-square, the final game went to Florea over Rodionova, 3—6, 6-3, 6-2.

This concluded the2012 season for the Knights.  The team had a 10-1 record and saw four different players capture post season accolades.
