FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team continued its dominant play in East Coast Conference action Tuesday afternoon, as the Knights moved to 7-0 on the season (5-0 ECC) with a decisive 9-0 shutout over visiting Molloy.
QC received a default victory at No. 3 doubles, and then got identical 8-1 triumphs in the Nos. 1 and 2 flights from Erika Goldsmith (Jr., Edison, N.J.) and Francesca Fanchin (Fr., New York, N.Y.), and Anna Rodionova (So., Orenburg, Russia) and Phoebe Chiem (Fr., Duluth, Ga.), respectively.
Goldsmith defeated Molloy's (1-8, 1-4 ECC) Jeana Frey at No. 1 singles by identical 6-1 scores, while Rodionova bested Madeline Jurlano by matching 6-love counts in the No. 2 flight. Fanchin knocked off Nikki Gloria at No. 3 by a 6-3, 6-love count, while junior Daniela Celi (Casselberry, Fla.) took out Gabrielle DiCroce of the Lions at No. 4, 6-love and 6-2. Senior Andrea Salvetova (Plzen, Czech Republic) rounded out the Knights' victory with a 6-1, 6-love decision over Michelle Strack in the No. 5 position. Queens picked up a default victory at No. 6 singles, as well.
Head coach Alan Nagel's Queens team is back in action Thursday afternoon (Sept. 29), when it plays host to a non-conference match with C.W. Post at 3:30 p.m.
