Women's Tennis Cruises Past C.W. Post, 9-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Queens College tennis team made it 3-for-3 on the young 2011 fall season Tuesday afternoon, as the visiting Knights took home their second-consecutive East Coast Conference match with a 9-0 shutout at C.W. Post.

QC (3-0, 2-0 ECC) started the match up 2-love after earning default victories at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Anna Rodionova (Orenburg, Russia) and freshman Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) picked up an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles versus Lejla Heco and Morgan Milleisen of the Pioneers (0-2, 0-2 ECC), before junior Daniela Celi (Casselberry, Fla.) and senior Taylor Barber (Salt Lake City, Utah) shutout Katie Avelar and Kristin Hettler in the No. 2 flight by an 8-0 count.

Junior Erika Goldsmith led the way at the top of the Queens singles lineup with a 6-1, 6-3 decision versus Heco, before Rodionova converted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Milleisen at the No. 2 flight. Freshman and two-time ECC Rookie of the Week, Phoebe Chiem (Duluth, Ga.), Celi and senior Andrea Salvetova (Plzen, Czech Republic) then captured identical 6-1, 6-love decisions in the Nos. 3-through-5 slots against Avelar, Hettler and Erin Lawney, respectively.

Head coach Alan Nagel's Knights are back in ECC action Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 14), when they play host to Dowling College in Flushing, in a make-up contest from Sept. 6. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
