Men's Soccer Tripped Up at Holy Family, 3-1

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Junior forward Peter Touros (Bellerose, N.Y.) netted his second goal of the season just before halftime Tuesday afternoon, but it was not enough for the Queens College men's soccer team (1-4), as the Knights were victimized by missed chances in a 3-1 loss at Holy Family (3-1).

The host Tigers got on the board in the 11th minute, when Keith Crews converted off passes from Seydou Ba and Jeffrey Wimsey. HFU doubled its advantage in the 44th minute of play, when Mark Fischer found the back of the net.

From there, Touros cut the QC deficit in half just :17 prior to intermission. The play was set up by Santiago Bedoya (E. Elmhurst, N.Y.) and Metri Abdul-Karim (Oceanside, N.Y.)

Queens, which outshot Holy Family by a 17-10 count on the day, used momentum from the pre-halftime goal to control most of the play over the next 20 minutes. However, Nicolas Delgado's second goal of the season in the 64th minute pushed the Tigers' lead back to two.

Not long thereafter, Peter Touros was taken down in the penalty box, setting up a spot kick. However, HFU keeper Mark Ferretti (eight saves) guessed correctly and thwarted the attempt.

Head coach Carl Christian's Queens team is back in action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 18), when it plays host to District of Columbia at 1 p.m.
