FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision today in Flushing to the visiting Skyhawks of Stonehill College. Stonehill (2-1) used a three-goal second half to push past the host Knights (1-3).
The first half of play remained scoreless until 19th minute, where Anthony Campagnano of the Skyhawks scored off of a throw in by Christopher Agan. The Knights responded with a goal in the 38th minute from Santiago Bedoya (E. Elmhurst, N.Y.), after Peter Touros (Bellerose, N.Y.) crossed a ball from the right side from 15 yards away. The teams went into halftime deadlocked at 1-all.
Early in the second half, Stonehill's Mark Bolster headed in a goal to the far post with an assist from Ross McWilliams to give the visitors the lead for good. The Skyhawks scoring did not stop there, as in the 75th minute of play, Michael White (two goals) found the lower right corner of the net after his free kick from the top of the box was deflected. Less than two minutes later, White converted a penalty kick to give Stonehill a three-goal lead over the Knights.
Knights goalkeeper Demetrios Touros (Bellerose, N.Y.) had three saves, while the Skyhawks' counterpart, Eric Schott had two. Stonehill outshot Queens on the afternoon, 16-9.
Head Coach Carl Christian and his Knights are back in action Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to Northeast Philadelphia, Pa., for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff at Holy Family University.
