No. 25 Women's Tennis Downed by No. 12 Clayton State in NCAA Round of 16

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Queens College women's tennis team, ranked No. 25 nationally in the Campbell's/Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, saw its 2010-11 season come to a close Wednesday night, as the Knights dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 12 Clayton State in the NCAA Division II Championships' Round of 16.

Queens (19-2) bid adieu to a trio of fantastic seniors, as Laura Mocodeanu, Maria Mendes and Maria Perevezentseva suited up for the Knights for the final time against the Lakers.

Clayton State rushed out of the starting blocks with victories in all three doubles matches, including an 8-2 decision at the No. 1 flight over Linda Tatala-Colin and Andrea Salvetova; an 8-1 triumph by Katie White and Marie Cercelletti over Erika Goldsmith and Mocodeanu; and an 8-3 decision by Martina Dedaj and Jessica Budd versus Mendes and Taylor Barber.

The Lakers then claimed straight-set victories at the No. 1 and 4 singles flights to wrap up the team match.
