Brookville, N.Y.- The Queens College Women's Basketball team's season came to an end tonight with an ECC Quarterfinal loss to the C.W. Post Pioneers, 67-61. With the loss the Knights put the '10-'11 season to rest with a final record of 10-20(9-12 ECC). The win sees the Pioneers advance to the semi-finals and improves their record to 16-12(12-9 ECC).
In all three previous meetings between these two clubs the Pioneers have had the Knights number in every contest. Tonight for at least the first twenty minutes the tide seemed to shift in QC's favor. Queens shot a solid 48% from the floor as well as 40% from beyond the arc and a perfect 100% from the free throw line to take the lead into the locker room 32-28. The Knights were poised and ready to advance to the semis. However Post guard Felicia Joyner had other plans. Joyner who had a huge second half and pouring in 22 points for the game propelled the Pioneers past the Knights in Brookville. Costly turnovers and missed free throws down the stretched plagued the Knights as well.
In their final game of '10-'11 season three Knights found themselves in double digits. Junior guard Amanda Bartlett led the way for her squad dropping 23 points good for a game and team high. Bartlett was 8-17 from the field while going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Chloe Johnson registered a double-double in the loss. Johnson added 17 points as well as grabbing 10 rebounds. The sophomore was a solid 5-7 from the floor as well as 7-10 from the charity stripe. Senior guard Christine Harnishfeger rounded out the scoring for the Knights adding 10 points on 4-6 shooting.
For the second straight year against the same opponent the Knights season comes to a close in the first round of the ECC playoffs. The Knights bid fair well to seniors Christine Harnishfeger, Danielle Tharrington, Jessica Fairweather and Talaya Melton and wish them the best of luck in years to come.
