Flushing, NY- The Queens College Women's Basketball dropped a 58-50 decision to the visiting Golden Lions of Dowling College last night. The crucial loss drops the Knights to 10-15 overall and an even 9-9 in ECC play. The win sees the Golden Lions improve to 14-11 and 12-6 in the Conference.
An ice cold first half shooting performance from the Knights set the tone for the game, and QC was never able to recover. Hitting only five shots in the first stanza, four of which were three balls put the Knights behind the eight ball from the start. Going into half Queens saw themselves down 21-17. Despite having a better shooting second half, shooting 43% from the field and a perfect 100% from the charity stripe, the Knights were never able to catch Dowling.
The 58-50 loss drops the Knights into sole procession of fifth place in the ECC. The final three regular season games for QC are all come against teams that are currently ahead of them in the conference. With a total of nine conference wins thus far, the Knights have secured a spot in the post season. However, these last three games will determine their final seeding. With some help and a clean sweep the Knights could finish as high a tie for second.
Sophomore forward Chloe Johnson was the lone bright spot for Queens in the loss. Johnson poured in 18 points all of which came from trey going 6-10 from beyond the arc. Senior Christine Harnishfeger added 10 points in the loss as well.
The Knights return to action this Saturday when they travel to Bridgeport to take on the Purple Knights. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm and all the action can be followed at www.bridgeport.edu.
