FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College women's tennis team moved to 10-0 on the 2011-12 season Friday afternoon, as the Knights registered a 9-0 triumph versus visiting C.W. Post.
QC picked up default victories in the Nos. 5 and 6 singles flights, as well as the No. 3 doubles slot, at the start of the match due to an insufficient number of players for the Pioneers (1-6). Recently-named East Coast Conference Player of the Year, junior Erika Goldsmith (Edison, N.J.) teamed with fellow All-ECC honoree, second-team sophomore Anna Rodionova (Orenburg, Russia) to pick up an 8-1 decision at No. 1 doubles versus Morgan Milleisen and Lejla Heco. The Knights then sealed the team match with a win in the No. 2 doubles flight, 8-love, by senior Taylor Barber (Salt Lake City, Utah) and all-conference freshman, Francesca Fanchin (New York, N.Y.) over Katie Avelar and Kristin Hettler.
Fanchin topped the singles lineup with a 6-love, 6-2 triumph against Milleisen, while freshman Phoebe Chiem (Duluth, Ga.) took down Heco in the No. 2 flight, 6-2 and 6-love. Rodionova bested Avelar in the No. 3 position, while senior Andrea Salvetova (Plzen, Czech Republic) toppled Hettler at No. 4 singles, by identical 6-love scores.
Head coach Alan Nagel's Knights are next in action Monday (Oct. 10), when they play a rare home-and-away doubleheader. QC plays host to Georgian Court at 12 noon in Flushing, before traveling to Dowling for a 6:30 p.m. start in the nightcap.
