Hopkins double-double leads Knights past Dowling 64-59

The Queens College Women's basketball snapped a Dowling Golden Lion five game win streak last night with an impressive 64-59 victory. The win makes it two straight for the Knights improving their record to 7-11 and 6-5 in conference moving them into tie for third. Dowling with the loss falls to 9-9 and 7-4 in ECC play.

Despite Dowling being on a five game win streak with their most predominant and recent victory being over first place STAC, the Golden Lions could not find an answer for the visiting Queens College Knights. Queens used a good shooting first half to set the tone for the game. The Knights shot close to 50 % from the floor in the first stanza as well as 41% from beyond the three point arc. The Knights took the lead into the locker room 32-28.

Queens came out and used a hot start to the second half to propel themselves over the Golden Lions. Queens was up by as many as 15 with about seven minutes left. Dowling tried to rally but it wasn't enough as the Knights were able to hold on to a 64-59 victory over the second place Gold Lions.

Both junior Amanda Bartlett and freshman Caitlin Hopkins carried the work load in the Knights victory. Bartlett led the way scoring a game and team high 18 points on 5-13 shooting while going 4-9 from three point range as well as being a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. Hopkins recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in only 31 minutes of work.

The Knights have a big week coming up, taking on both Bridgeport and C.W Post. Both teams are currently tied with Queens for a share of third place in the ECC.  The Knights are set to take on Bridgeport with a tip-off scheduled for 5pm on Wed. Jan 26th at home. All the action can be followed under the schedules tab on our website. Both live-stats and video will be available for the game.
