FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's volleyball team wraps up its season-opening homestand on Thursday evening before traveling to New Haven, Conn., to compete in the SCSU Tri-Match on Saturday.
 
In their opening weekend, the Knights went 1-3 while facing top-quality opponents from around the region and country. A very young squad, the Knights are led by freshman outside hitter Zoe Sercu, who was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Sercu paced the Knights' offense with 37 kills while adding nine service aces, 20 digs, and four blocks during the opening weekend of her collegiate career. In her first career start, Sercu recorded a double-double with a match-high 17 kills and 12 digs, along with four service aces, to help Queens rally for a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Post University in the season opener.
 
Freshman Mikayla Haskell has also made an early impact, recording 27 kills and a team-best nine blocks. She recorded a career-high 12 kills and three blocks in the five-set victory over Post University. Rookie Kaiya Banks leads the Knights with 61 assists while adding five service aces and 19 digs.
 
The young Knights squad will be tested as they prepare for three matches this week, beginning with the Felician University Golden Falcons at home before facing the Southern Connecticut State University Owls and Franklin Pierce University Ravens on Saturday in New Haven.

Felician University Preview

Felician has opened the season with a 3-1 overall record and enters Flushing riding a three-match winning streak. Thursday's matchup will be the sixth meeting between the two sides, with the Knights leading the all-time series, 5-0.
 
It will be the first meeting between Queens and Felician since the 2024 season, when the Knights earned a four-set victory in Rutherford, N.J. It will also be the first home match against the Golden Falcons since the 2014 season, when Queens earned another four-set victory.

Southern Connecticut State University Preview

SCSU has opened the season with a 4-1 overall record and will host Queens for the fifth time in the last six seasons. Saturday's matchup will be the 22nd all-time meeting between the two sides, with the Knights trailing the series, 7-14.
 
The Knights are looking for their second win in New Haven in the last three seasons. Queens swept SCSU in 2024, while the Owls avenged the loss last season.

Franklin Pierce University Preview

Franklin Pierce has opened the season with a 1-3 overall record and defeated Daemen University in five sets during its season-opening tournament at Clarion University.
 
Saturday's matchup at SCSU will be the ninth all-time meeting between the two sides, with the series tied at 4-4. The Knights are looking for their first win over the Ravens since the 2014 season, when Queens earned a five-set victory in West Haven, Conn.

NEXT WEEK OUTLOOK:

Queens will remain on the road as the Knights travel to Chestnut Hill College on Sept. 8 before competing in the two-day Wildcats Invitational, hosted by Wilmington University, from Sept. 11-12.
