FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening a two-match homestand, the Queens College women's tennis team welcomed Thomas Jefferson University Rams to Flushing for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup Thursday afternoon.
Facing the Rams for the second time in a week, the Knights battled in another contest that went down to the wire. However, the visitors edged Queens, 4-3, to earn the series split.
Queens moves to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in CACC play.
Doubles Recap
The Knights opened doubles play by taking an early lead as the No. 2 senior pairing of
Lilie Bizouerne and
Sixtine Goubet earned a 6-1 victory over Isabella Lazzerini and Sophia Babar.
The Rams would even the doubles competition at 1-1 as Queens' No. 3 pairing of junior
Johanne Genestay and sophomore
Anishka Amalnathan fell, 6-2, to Kalmoira Ralli and Madina Omarova.
Down to the No. 1 court, the pairing of sophomore
Ela Vasic and rookie
Vilte Vaitkeviciute battled in a tiebreaker but fell to Anouk Oderkerk and Alycia Veroux, 7-6 (7-5), as the Rams took a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Singles Recap
Bizouerne opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Omarova at No. 3 to even the match at 1-1.
Vasic then put the Knights ahead, 2-1, with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Veroux at No. 2.
The Rams answered at No. 4 as Amalnathan battled Ralli through three sets. After dropping the first set, 6-3, the sophomore responded with a 7-5 second-set victory to force a deciding set. Ralli would take the third set, 6-4, to even the match at 2-2.
It was a marathon battle at No. 1 between Goubet and Oderkerk. Oderkerk claimed the opening set, 6-4, before Goubet battled back with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4) second-set victory. Oderkerk would take the deciding set, 6-3, putting the Rams ahead, 3-2.
At No. 5, Genestay fell to Lazzerini, 6-4, 6-3, as the Rams clinched the match and earned the series split.
Vaitkeviciute closed out singles play with a comeback victory at No. 6. After dropping the opening set, 6-3, to Alvarado, Vaitkeviciute responded with a dominant 6-0 second-set victory before securing a 10-2 victory in the deciding super tiebreaker.

Queens concludes its homestand on Saturday, Sept. 19, as the Knights welcome defending CACC champions Wilmington University Wildcats to town. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
