WEST HAVEN, CT – Closing out the regular season in a cross-divisional matchup, the Queens College women's tennis team faced the University of New Haven Chargers Saturday afternoon at the New Haven Tennis Courts.
Queens grabbed an early 1-0 advantage after doubles play, but New Haven rallied in singles action, claiming four matches to edge the Knights, 4-3.
The Knights wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 14-4.
Doubles Play
Queens secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The top pairing of senior
Marie Bertran (Villelaure, France) and freshman
Ela Vasic (Novi Sad, Serbia) earned a 6-3 victory over Valentinna Ferrarini and Candace Habay.
At No. 2, juniors
Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) and
Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) battled to a 7-6
(7-5) tiebreak win over Pierina Lescher and Victoria Togores to clinch the point.
The Chargers picked up a win at No. 3 to avoid the sweep.
Singles Play
Bizouerne posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Togores at No. 2, while sophomore
Johanne Genestay (Dinan, France) rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 comeback victory over Manon Hallemans.
New Haven, however, secured wins at No. 1, 3, 5, and 6 singles to take the match, 4-3.

With the regular season complete, Queens now turns its focus to the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship. Details will be announced at a later time.
