COLONIA, N.J. – In the fifth East Coast Conference weekly report of the season, two Queens College baseball student-athletes earned conference recognition. Rookie infielder
Justin Chong (Queens Village, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week for the second straight week, while junior right-hander
Michael Vilardi (Massapequa, N.Y.) was named to the Honor Roll sheet.
Rookie of the Week
Chong paced the Knights' offense, hitting .400 with a .429 on-base percentage and .700 slugging percentage. He recorded a team-high eight hits, including four doubles and one triple, while scoring four runs, driving in two, and stealing two bases. Chong hit safely in all five games, posting three multi-hit performances and totaling 14 bases. He played a key role in Queens' win over Molloy, recording a multi-hit game and scoring an insurance run as the Knights shut out Molloy for the first time in program history.
Honor Roll
Vilardi delivered a career performance, tossing his third career complete game and first career shutout. The Massapequa native allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out five in a 2-0 victory. Vilardi retired 11 straight batters at one point and held off a late rally to help Queens earn its first ECC win of the season.
Next Pitch
Queens remains at home and returns to action on Friday, March 20, when they host the College of Staten Island Dolphins in ECC play. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
