FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening the calendar year inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium, the Queens College men's basketball team hosted Lincoln University (Pa.) Lions in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Three Knights scored in double figures, led by a career-tying 12 points from sophomore guard
Tyler Michel (Cambria Heights, N.Y.), Senior forward
Tahj-Malik Campbell (Philadelphia, PA), and junior guard
Dontae Prescott (Coney Island, N.Y.) added a combined 20 points. A slow start proved costly, however, as the Lions secured an 82–63 victory to earn the series split.
GAME RECAP
Queens struggled out of the gate, as Lincoln opened the contest on a 22–5 run to take a 17-point lead at the 11:53 mark of the first half. The Knights responded with a 6–0 spurt to cut the deficit to 22–11 with 9:11 remaining.
Queens was held to 25.0 percent from the field in the opening half, while the Lions connected on 44.1 percent of their attempts, resulting in a 45–22 Lincoln advantage at the break.
The Knights showed improved energy to start the second half, opening on an 18–13 run to trim the margin to 58–40 with 11:52 to play.
Queens shot 40.0 percent from the field in the second half, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as Lincoln maintained control down the stretch.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Michel delivered a season-best outing, tying his career high with 12 points while adding four rebounds, four assists, and a career-best four steals.
- Campbell finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.
- Prescott chipped in 10 points, along with two steals, one block, and one rebound.
NEXT GAME
The Knights conclude non-conference play on the road in Springfield, Mass., on Wednesday, January 7, when they face the American International College Yellow Jackets. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
