Women’s Tennis Lilie Bizouerne Crowned ITA East Regional Singles Champions

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Competing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Championship, the Queens College women's tennis team delivered an impressive performance, highlighted by a Singles Championship title and a runner-up finish in doubles.
 
Junior Lilie Bizouerne (La Ciotat, France) captured the East Region Singles Championship, becoming the first Knight to claim the regional crown since Maja Makal's title run in 2019.
 
In doubles action, the pairing of Bizouerne and fellow junior Sixtine Goubet (Lyon, France) made a historic run to the finals, marking the first time a Queens College duo reached the championship match since Aylin Mehter and Yevgeniya Plevako captured the title in 2013.

Doubles Recap

Seeded No. 8, the pair of Bizouerne and Goubet opened their run to the championship match with an impressive performance in the Round of 32, securing an 8–2 victory over D'Youville University's Nele Herbst and Erika Ismailova.
 
In the Round of 16, the Knights continued their strong form, defeating the Southern New Hampshire University pairing of Lucia Dusseljee and Eyglo Armannsdottir by a score of 8–3.
 
The momentum carried into the Quarterfinals, as Bizouerne and Goubet defeated the Adelphi University Panthers duo of Sara Lindeman and Genesis Beltran by a score of 8–2.
 
Facing Franklin Pierce University's Gabriela Almeida and Ainhoa Ordones in the Semifinal, the Knights duo powered through with a commanding 6–2, 6–1 straight-sets victory to book their spot in the finals.
 
In the championship match, the pair faced off against the top-seeded team of Katarina Liedbeck and Roisin Boyd. Despite a valiant effort, the Queens duo fell short of the title, dropping the match 6–3, 6–4 to finish as ITA East Regional Doubles Runners-Up, marking the program's best doubles result since 2013.

Singles Recap

Seeded No. 13, Bizouerne launched her title campaign in the Round of 64 with a 7–5, 6–2 win over Hill College's Milica Zagorac.
 
In the Round of 32, she maintained her momentum with a dominant 6–1, 6–1 victory against Southern New Hampshire's Nadya Lyekontseva.
 
Bizouerne then faced her toughest test yet in the Round of 16, going up against No. 2 seed Liedbeck. In a tightly contested match, the junior pulled off a major upset with a 7–5, 6–4 win.
The Quarterfinals presented another challenge as Bizouerne squared off against No. 12 seed Boyd. In a thrilling match with both sets going the distance, she emerged victorious 7–5, 7–6 (7–2) to secure her spot in the Final Four.
 
In the Semifinals, Bizouerne delivered one of her most dominant performances of the tournament, defeating Wilmington University's Yelyzaveta Sylka 6–2, 6–0.
 
Competing in her second final of the championship, Bizouerne took on Wilmington University No. 3 seed Siana Macdonald. Rising to the occasion, Bizouerne clinched the ITA East Regional Singles Championship with a commanding 6–3, 6–1 victory.
 
With her regional title, Bizouerne has earned a spot in the ITA Cup, where she will represent Queens College and the East Region in the national tournament. The event will be held at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, from October 16–19. More details to follow.

Opening up dual match play, the Knights will travel to Sparkill, N.Y., on Saturday, October 4, to take on the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans in East Coast Conference action. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
