Women’s Soccer Battles #6 Franklin Pierce in Non-Conference Action

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Returning to Knights Field Wednesday afternoon, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed defending NE10 and East Regional Champions Franklin Pierce University Ravens in non-conference play.

Matching against the nationally-ranked #6 team Ravens, the Knights notched four shots but would fall to the final score of 4-0 to begin a tough two-match week.

MATCH RECAP

On a day where the Ravens controlled the pace of the match from start to finish, the Knights battled throughout, hoping for an upset.

The Ravens opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the contest to take an early 1-0 lead.

As sophomore goalie Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded her third save of the match through the first 20 minutes, Queens would get their first opportunity, courtesy of a shot on goal from junior forward Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y) in the 22nd minute of play. But it would be a timely save from the Ravens' goalie to keep the Knights off the scoreboard.

With the Knights keeping their deficit at 1-0, Queens would earn a set piece in the 38th minute of play. Creating their second opportunity of the first half, junior midfielder Anna Tavantzis (Holbrook, N.Y.) shot just missed as she was unable to tie the match.

The Ravens doubled their advantage in the 50th minute of play for a 2-0 lead.

With limited opportunity to press the Ravens' defense, Rosenberger recorded her second shot on the goal in the 66th minute of play, but it would be another timely save from the Ravens' goalie.

As the Ravens found the back of the net in the 77th minute of play for a 3-0 advantage, Ravens goalie would deny sophomore forward Abigail Jalocha's (Maspeth, N.Y. ) shot on goal in the 78th minute before the visitors closed out the scoring in the 80th minute of play to earn a 4-0 victory over Queens.

  • Rosenberger and Jalocha combined for three shots on goal, while Tavantzis recorded a shot.
  • In goal, Hines-Hirsch recorded a season-best nine saves.
