FLUSHING, N.Y. – Opening the 2025 season at home, the Queens College women's soccer team welcomed the Huskies of Bloomsburg University to Knights Field Thursday evening.

It would be a slow start to the game for both sides as neither side was able to register a shot through the first 20 minutes of the match.
But in the 25
th minute of play, the Huskies capitalized on a set piece to open the scoring as they took an early 1-0 lead.
Sophomore goalie
Samantha Hines-Hirsch (Plainview, N.Y.) would record two saves in the first half to keep the deficit at 1-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, Hines-Hirsch would continue to keep the game at 1-0 as they recorded two saves in the opening seven minutes.
Rookie forward
Grace Kinney (Sammamish, WA.) would tally the Knights' first shot of the match and on target in the 54
th minute, but a timely save would keep the home side off the scoreboard.
As Queens negated a Huskies' corner kick, Kinney on the counterattack would record her second shot on target in the 57
th minute, but once again the Huskies' goalie would keep the rookie off the scoreboard.
Despite it being an even affair in the second half as both sides combined for 10 shots, the Huskies would earn the victory to the final score of 1-0 to defeat the Knights.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kinney led the Knights with two shots on goal, while junior forward Jenna Rosenberger (Smithtown, N.Y) recorded the third shot on goal.
- Rookie midfielder Mia Goicochea (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) and redshirt-sophomore defender Ava Lekanides (Garden City, N.Y.) combined for two shots.
- Goalie Hines-Hirsch recorded five saves.
- The Knights were outshot 9-6 and 6-3 shots on goal.
NEXT MATCH
Queens conclude week one of play on the road as they make a trip to Orangeburg, N.Y., on Sunday, Sept. 7, as they match up against the Chargers of Dominican University of New York. Kickoff is set for noon.
