WEST HAVEN, CONN. – The Queens College women's tennis team returned to East regional play as they traveled to West Haven, Connecticut against the University of New Haven Chargers at New Haven Tennis Courts.
In a battle between both nationally-ranked teams with the Knights ranking at 27 and the Chargers at 38, it would be the Chargers that would use the doubles victory to take a 4-3 victory over the Knights.
The Knights move to 9-5 on the year.
DOUBLES ACTION
It would be a tough loss at the #1 court as the senior duo of
Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) and
Saga Berggren (Uddevalla, Sweden) fell 1-6 against Valentinna Ferrarini and Karim Carreras.
The Chargers would go on to sweep the doubles competition as the #2 pair of graduate student
Eva Rivoal (Saint-Denis-de-Pile, France) and junior
Apolline Lamy (Toulouse, France) fell 0-6 against Victoria Togores and Risako Umekuni.
The #3 court as the pair of graduate student
Kyra Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and rookie
Sakura Saito (Chiba, Japan) fell in a tough 6-7 tiebreaker loss against Laura Ortner and Agustina Ravera.
SINGLES ACTION
The Knights would split the singles play with senior
Caroline Hany-Fawzy (Alexandria, Egypt) earning a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the #2 court while Lamy at the #3 court earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Umekuni.
Berggren would earn a victory at court #6 as she knocked off Ravera to the score of 6-1, 6-0 but it would be a tough loss as the Knights fell short of a comeback victory Friday afternoon.
